Ok so here's the scoop! We are looking for new members for our design team, and now for the requirements.
Please send us an email at keepsake_cottage@yahoo.com and inside the email include:

a. Name, phone number, and contact email address.

b. Please tell us why you would love to join the Keepsake Cottage team.

c. List your area(s) of expertise. EX: If you have experience with Videos, blogging, photography and Altered Art please note that in your e-mail.

d. Blog link and/or gallery link (optional).

e. Three samples of work showing your style. These files must be NO larger than 300kb each. (Please do not send high res files.) Projects do not have to use products purchased from Keepsake Cottage although we love seeing how you work with them (however, if chosen for our team you will be required to use ONLY items purchased from Keepsake Cottage). Also we would like to see a variety of items such as cards, layout pages, mini albums or altered art.

f. A short autobiography.

Our design team call will run from November 10th thru December 31st. I know that this is during the Holidays and everyone is in a rush, but lets see how you work under pressure! :)

March was such a busy month and just flew by so fast. I really can't believe that time got away so quickly. So now I have posted both March and Aprils challenges.

March's challenge was a difficult one but a fun one. The theme was {Simple-one sheet of cardstock, one sheet of pattern paper and only one embellishment}. WOW~ My team did a great job with this.

April's challenge was just as difficult-I asked my team to create a layout about {What Inspires You?...} This layout was a soul searching experience for me and I learned allot from it.

This page layout is so well done and SOOOOOO glam with glitter!!!! The color combo is just awesome and really highlights the photo! That's the thing that I really like about this page is the fact the that glitter makes the picture pop, it adds the perfect amount of contrast against the photo! Good Job!!!

Wow! THis page is so cool! I just love the way Kyra used the glitter alphabets for her title and the way she used her glitter papers as accent. I think the little photos are awesome and the colors in the photo are really accented by the colors of the glitter! Too cool!

I jsut love how Shyann used the combination of bright colors against the white background. It really makes the glitter pop without being to dramatic. Such a great page!

I had so much fun creating this page. On my layout I used the awesome "Shimmerz" paints on the white felt snowflakes to give them that extra bling. I also used some really glittery iridescent plastic snowflakes. The combination of the two just give this page extra sparkle and shine-don't ya think?

Halloween & Grunge-what a great combination!!! Too cute! Look how delicious the candy corns look all grundged even the little spider sports an amazing look all his own! The black ink on this layout really looks so great-LovE iT-----

On my Grunged up page I decided to add to the look by using Photoshop to enhance my photo, then I inked to edges of the photo using a dark walnut ink. For my title I painted a piece of chipboard and covered it with paper then sanded and heavily inked the edges, I also sanded my paper edges and then "grunged" up the edges with the same dark walnut ink.

Mom really grunged up her paper edges using an edge distresser! Doesn't that look awesome! I really like how she used the inking around the photo edges to add a subtle grunge to make the photo "pop"! Fabulous work!!!!!

I am really impressed with Shyann's page! I really like how she grunged up the ribbon, she dyed the ribbon with ink, wrinkled it and let it dry, then she ran an ink pad over it to grunge it up more-how amazing is that? Oh, and another cool thing is how she embellished the corner of her page.

Jenny's layout is so awesome! I really love the chalky black ink on this vintage paper it really makes a fabulous grungy impression!!!! The torn edges and slight distressing on the edges adds to the look! Great page-and the ribbon really compliments the background!

Spooky Halloween Tree!

To create Cute, Spooky Halloween Tree follow the instructions below:

Ingredients needed:

Tree Branch (1 1/2-2 ft tall), Terra Cotta Post (7 in), Styrofoam , Shredded paper, 1 sheet of My Mind's Eye punchout dies , 1 each of 9 coordinating My Mind's Eye Halloween printed paper (12x12), 3 sheets black cardstock (12x12), 6 yards gingham ribbon (or similar), 6 yards Halloween twill tape (or similar), Black Soot Distress ink pad, Black spray paint & Glitter spray paint, Mod Podge, Adhesive

I also used the cricut machine and the cartridge "Bags, Tags, Boxes and More" to cut my tags

Step 1:

-Cut tags out of black cardstock in varying shapes & sizes from 2 in to 3 1/2 in.

-Using the shadow key (this is important) cut a back for your tags out of the various patterned papers in the sames varing sizes and shapes as the cardstock tags, (again let me stress it is important to use the shadow feature when cutting the tags out of the pattern paper). Glue these to the cardstock tags and then ink edges using the Black Soot distress ink.

-Punch out the sheet of and ink edges, glue these to the tags. Refer to photos.

-Once tags are all assembled you will want to tie your ribbons through your tags.
Step 2:
-Trim your tree branches if needed; next spray paint your branches black and then spray on the glitter.

-Cut pattern papers to 3x4 and modge podge to the base of terra cotta pot, (refer to photo above); for around the lip of the pot choose a pattern paper and cut to 2x12 (cut 2 of these); modge podge these two pieces of paper to the lip of pot. If you choose you may ink the edges of your papers before adhering to pot. I also used the Halloween twill tape around top and bottom of pot base (again refer to photo).

-Glue styrofoam to bottom of pot, then stick branches in styrofoam, using a little liguid adhesive if needed to hold them tightly. Next cover the styrofoam and bottom of branches with shredded paper.

-Finish tree by tying the tags onto the tree using the Halloween twill tape ribbon.

I cut my leaves out of fabric then hand stitched them together using batting to give the leaves dimension, as a finishing touch I embellsihed my leaves with beads, ribbon and buttons.

Next week I will be posting the challenge for September! Many of you may have already had the experince of creating projects for challenges and many of you may have never done this before. How these challenges will work is I will post the challenge for the month along with samples created by our design team, we will then encourage all of you to create a project (layout 1 or 2 page, card or cards, or any paper craft item of your choice). Once your project is finished you will photograph it and send a pic of your project to our e-mail address, I will post all the entries once I recieve them. We will then give instructions on how to pick your faves and once the next months challenge is posted we will tally up the votes and choose a winner or winners for our previous challenge. The winner will recieve a nice prize package from Keepsake Cottage. This is going to be so fun! I am so excited to see all the creative projects and inspiration from you all.

So, lately, I have been feeling a void in my life and found myself becoming more focused on finding out what it is that makes me feel special or gives me inspiration! I searched many places-magazines, department store displays, clothing and more. Needless to say I had found none! Then finally I took a LONG look at everything around me and finally realized that the things that make me feel special and inspired are surrounding me in every corner, I have been so focused on the "things or places" I felt I needed to find inspiration that I hadn't even realized that all those special feelings are provoked everyday just by looking around me, looking at the things I love. The things I have gathered along the way in just everyday passing.

I love vintage flea market finds, I love lace and trim and buttons, I love things old and things that look old, I love looking at heritage photos and feeling that connection through the passage of time. I love expressing my vintage, shabby style in my scrapbooks and paper crafts. This is it, the inspiration, this is what brings out the artist in me.
